Manor House School is an independent day school in Leicestershire, for boys and girls aged three to 16 years. We are a traditional English  ‘boater hat and cap’ independent school which combines high quality teaching  and learning with high standards of manners and behaviour.

Set in picturesque surroundings beside the historic castle of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, the school has a long and proud tradition of preparing children for every stage of their education, from Kindergarten to GCSE.

Unlike many other private schools in Leicestershire, Manor House School assesses pupils both on their academic performance and their ability to fit into the school's close-knit community. We do not enforce an entrance examination and welcome all children; we are consistently the highest performing non selective independent school in the region.

GCSE results are consistently above the national average. In 2016 our pupils achieved a 100% pass rate, with five subjects achieving 100% A* - C and 20% of our pupils passing exams a year ahead and the same number aged 14, two years ahead of pupils in similar schools. Our pupils are stretched at all levels and provided with structured routes to achievement.

Two free taster days are offered to all prospective pupils. During this time, they take part in lessons and school activities, and are assessed on their suitability for a place at the school. Mr Messent, headteacher, then meets with the pupil and parents to discuss the two days and move forwards.

Class sizes are limited to no more than 15 pupils, to ensure that all children receive the individual attention, help and guidance they need to succeed.

Pupils are encouraged to fulfil their academic potential but also to develop other valuable skills and qualities, as part of their personal development. The school offers a varied programme of extra curricular activities, in which sport, music and drama feature prominently.

A healthy and flavoursome lunch, freshly cooked by staff in our kitchens on site, is included in our daily routine. For busy families, the school runs a breakfast club from 7.30am and an after-school club until 6pm.

The school is affiliated to ISA, a body that accredits 350 of the UK’s highest performing independent schools.

Set up as a school in the early 1900s, our grounds were once the property of King Edward IV. We are on land which was originally occupied by a small fortified manor house which was built around the time of the Norman invasion. Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the property was owned by the Earl of Leicester. It was subsequently granted to the la Zouch family who held it until the end of the fourteenth century before the manor house became the residential home of Lord Hastings.

Manor House School has excellent transport links to the Midlands and beyond. As a result, the school is easily accessible to pupils from a wide geographical area, including Ashby, Loughborough, Burton-on-Trent, Castle Donington, Market Bosworth, Markfield and Derby.

The school's unique combination of traditional values, family atmosphere and high educational standards ensures that all Manor House pupils leave the school well-prepared for life in today’s challenging, global society.
